First, read Marshall Brain's essay: Ponder God's Plan.

Christians always say that God has a plan for everyone. This is true. Everything that happens in the block universe is planned. However Brain does not understand what the OVERALL plan for life on Earth is. God's OVERALL plan is to educate people about sin (selfishness). By actually letting people do many of the bad things they want to do. And suffering the consequences. Really, getting a taste of Hell here on Earth. Then everyone who does not like it and wants to move on to a better world and who is willing to give up their selfishness and do what God wants will be qualified for Heaven. It just wouldn't make any sense for God to let selfish people into a perfect world because then it would not be perfect. It would not be heavenly. We have to get selfishness out of our system first.

So, now, Brain says that God planned every abortion. This is true. God could have stopped every abortion if He wanted to. But then what would WE learn about sin/selfishness? What would the person who gets the abortion learn about themselves? Nothing. Brain is always whining that God does not answer prayer. In the case of millions of abortions, God is giving people exactly what they want. God is answering their prayers, because hopes, wishes and desires count as prayers.

Then, of course, Brain brings up Hitler. Yes, God could have stopped Hitler. But then we would never get a lesson in how bad people can be. The German people would never have learned how bad they can be. It's a great lesson for everyone. Then we have all the people who suffered and died in WW II. And their loved ones. They all got a taste of hell here on Earth. It caused some of them to take God seriously.

God is giving us a sampling of Hell here on Earth. God figures that if a little bit of Hell on Earth will get people to give up sin and qualify them for Heaven that is an awful lot better for them in the long run than trying to make life perfect here on Earth now, or keeping people on a sinful Earth forever or tossing them into Hell in the end.
